Mission Athletes vs. Cancer is an industry-wide fundraising program that unites sports, sports fans and the community in the fight against cancer. AVC wants to save lives and assist in ending cancer forever. Through our annual golf tournament and many other fundraisers throughout the year, the foundation will raise money to help secure cancer screening vans to visit low-income neighborhoods and give free support research, create awareness, provide screening opportunities and deliver subsequent support to cancer patients. Matt Barnes started Athletes vs. Cancer in memory of his mother, Ann Barnes, who passed away twenty-six days after being diagnosed with several types of cancer. Ann's passing was abrupt and devastating to her friends and family.In 2008, Matt launched AVC with the goal of uniting fellow athletes to get more involved in educating the community-at-large about cancer and help encourage the public to get regular cancer screenings through awareness and motivation. A voice is one of the most powerful tools we have; Matt and AVC want to use theirs to save lives.
